No doubt you are familiar with general Nursing Research from your school days, but Research Nursing is an entirely different, and completely fascinating field for experienced professionals looking for intellectual stimulation and new challenges.

Translational research is a relatively new term used when researchers who have success with experiments in the laboratory apply or “translate” the results in humans. For nurses, this is a “bench-to-bedside” experience, where you can apply everything you know and love about one-to-one patient care, in a close-knit, collaborative team of full-time research RNs, Physicians, Principle Investigators, Data Managers and support personnel.

It all happens at the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at Cedars-Sinai, which is funded by the National Institute of Health’s Center for Research Resources. It was launched in 1995 and now supports more than 50 protocols from different departments.

Outpatient studies may be conducted through approximately 2,000 attending physicians affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center which admits more than 30,000 patients a year. Our computerized system allows researchers to quickly identify hospital patients who may potentially qualify for a clinical study.

The Center includes an outpatient clinic that supports protocols with patients undergoing special testing, sample collection, drug/hormone administration and more. You will never be bored, because the variety of research tests embraces virtually every field…cardiology, oncology, psychiatry, genetics, and renal to name a few, and it is constantly changing.

While you will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance to research procedures and protocols, there are many opportunities to be creative and confidently exercise your critical skills. We will happily train you to handle all types of clinical studies and the different tasks involved.

If you are at the stage in you nursing career where you want to slow down the pace, but not the learning process, opportunities at the GCRC become even more attractive.

Interested candidates with CA RN license, BCLS, at least two years of clinical experience, phlebotomy and IV skills, and computer proficiency, are encouraged to apply and translate their experience into this exciting new realm.
